From the molecule to the cure: the discovery process
Development Phase
Once you have identified a promising compound for pharmaceutical development (API), we conduct in vitro and in vivo experiments to gather information on:
- Absorption, distribution and excretion in rodents
- Its potential benefits
- The optimal dosage
- The best route of administration (such as orally or by injection)
- How it interacts with other actives
- Its effectiveness compared to similar actives
Preclinical phase
We also test your API to determine if it has the potential to cause side effects, also called toxicity. We collect several in vitro and in vivo data such as
- Cytotoxicity
- Post-mortem examination (necropsy)
- Histopathology and immunohistochemistry
- Immunoassays
- Distribution and pharmacokinetics in vivo
- Maximum tolerated and ascending dose
- Etc
